On Saturday, Mar 3, we are excitied to present with special guest, Karl - the 'CAT' - Roth, in nearby Okotoks, Alberta. Many will recognize Karl as Calgary's premier jazz violinist, and we are delighted he is joining us on such short notice! This renowned 'king-of -the-cats' will take the violin chair for our set at the Room Full of Sound triple header concert. Definitely, you do NOT want to miss this one! In addition to the foot-stompin', toe-tappin, reverie-inducin', smile-on-face-puttin' gypsy jazz you love, the concert also features sets by beloved folk-artist Barry Luft and the amazing songwriting talents of Steve Pineo! Its like a mini-festival in only one night! You will be royally entertained, and you won't believe the price - at only $20 you can afford to bring the entire neighbourhood! Not only that, but parts of this show will be televised, so you could even be - ON TV!!!!
But, if you think that because of its leonine entrance, March must go out like a lamb, think again - The Bow Djangos will also appear in concert in a big way at Big Note Music in Calgary on Sunday, Mar 25, This time we're offering you two full sets AND a warm-up act, AS WELL AS an acoustic guitar clinic for those interested in learning this compelling and entertaining jazz form, presented by none other than Calgary's Best Guitar Lesson's - Phill West. Who knew there would be so much interest in Gypsy Jazz Jammin? Our Nov. 3 evening at Beatniq was literally hoppin' with jammers, dancers, singers and manouche enthusiasts alike. We even had some visitors from the coast. Clarinet King CCC pronounced that never had he seen so many people there at a jam before! Great - we were worried that not too many people would show up. We've hosted a jam or two in the past - some stellar, and some less so, but usually among friends and familiars, and always within the secure confines of 'Chez Tess'. I have to admit to a bit of nerver-wrackedness in hosting a bunch of strangers off home turf! Nevertheless, it was a great success and so we look forward to doing more of the same in the New Year!
It was gratifying to see so many of the Thursday night crowd return again on Friday. Thankfully there were a few seats available, but overall, another big night at the BeatNiq, and when the calendar opens up, we'll be back - Hope to see YOU there!
